About Christmas and the Children
A letter sent to last year's Christmas sponsors...
Dear Fellow Appalachia Ministry Santa Claus,
On behalf of the people of McCreary County, Kentucky, and all the members of Love Thy Neighbor Ministry, we thank you for helping bring Christmas to these needy children. McCreary County is one of the poorest counties in the country which means that for some of these children this may be the only Christmas gift they receive.
We ask you to please purchase the following for each child whom you decided to sponsor:
- A pair of jeans or corduroys (the terrain is rugged)
- A shirt or sweatshirt (flannel shirts are great)
- A package of underwear (or diapers for infants)
- A package of athletic socks
- A winter hat and/or gloves
If you wish, you may add a little something to the package; however, we do try to keep the gifts simple and basic.
Please put all the gifts in one Christmas bag. Please do not put the gifts in boxes, as it is easier to transport without boxes.
Make sure the bag is clearly marked using the self-stick nametag provided with this sheet.
Please return the gifts to St. Mary’s Parish Center at the prescribed dates and times to Deacon Al’s attention. We will also be collecting the presents at another location in Downers Grove on Sunday (address and times to follow). We need to collect all these gifts prior to Thanksgiving in order to pack and transport to Whitley City, Kentucky, for the distribution event the first weekend of December.
